The Extraordinaires
Wednesday, March 5th 8pm
@ Greene Street (113 N. Greene Street)
$5 for 21+ $7 for under 21
The raucous Man Man is back. With their debut album coming out on the Anti label lots and lots of press has been bombarding the Philly boys. NPR has described them as "quirky and mischievous... often with old-world instrumentation and plenty of theatrics." Others say MAN MAN fasten together influences as diverse as Etta James, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, '80s pop, and Iggy Pop, creating a fresh and familiar rock sound. The instrumentation is refined and the songs structures are very tight, allowing the band to create complex songs that sound simple. Kitchen sink tracks of pop, rock, and beyond blues exorcisms for fans of Beefheart, Pogues, Residents, Tom Waits, Morricone, Wolf Parade and Can. They are a sight to see and this is a show not to be missed. The Extraordinaires are also from Philly and they're sound has been compared to a twangy Americana version of Man Man. Another local opening act will be announced soon.

A Drop In Silence will once again bring their hard hitting collision of noises and electronic manipulations to the floor. Hefty Records artist Elliot Lipp was scheduled to perform at this show, but he recently dropped out of the tour. Regardless this will still be an excellent show.

Yes, they're a four-piece instrumental rock band from Texas. Yes, their live show is a blur in most camera's lenses. Yes, their drummer plays a toddler's kit. No, their drummer is not a toddler. Yes, pretty much everyone that's heard them has had to pick their jaws up off the floor afterwards. And yes, they are playing an in studio at WUAG. It's as emotionally overwhelming as it is technically complex, and as energetic as it is graceful. The little band from the little town with the huge sound. It may sound familiar, but we promise you've never heard it quite like this.
