SPRING 2008

February 29th - March 7th Jessamyn Stanley
1. When is your show?
On Saturday nights, from 10pm-1am. If you’re not out causing mayhem, listening to my show is the only other acceptable Saturday night activity.
2. How did you get the idea for it?
Well, it’s a free music show, so I play requests, but I play a lot of female artists within many different genres. It can be hard for female musicians to stay true to themselves and not sell out, and I like to support artists who inspire me.
3. What's in your cd player or Ipod right now?
Lately I’ve been sort of buried in Gossip (the band, not the talk), The Black Keys, Peaches, and M.I.A
4. How far do you want to go in the radio world?
As far as it will take me. I think one day I would like to work in public radio, but today I’m just riding the wave.
5. What music is your guilty pleasure?
I should probably be embarrassed, but there’s probably something wrong with your body if you can’t get down to a Spice Girls dance mix.
6. What's your favorite lyric in a song?
Right now? “the rebels just cant muster the force to walk the thin line between belief and delusion” -The Blow ‘Fists Up’
7. If music was food, what food would it be?
The best slice of deep dish pizza on a scoop of green tea ice cream with extra hot mango relish on the side.

February 1st - 8th Jessica Swiniarski
1. When is your show?
Okay so my show is Sunday's 1-4 with my Co-host Kacie Ragland!
2. How did you get the idea for it?
I got my idea for the show because I know a lot of people go out on Saturday nights, and I wanted to give them a variety of things to listen to on Sunday's while they are hanging out and recovering from the weekend! I don't have to play rotation so I like to play a mix, and take a lot of requests!
3. What's in your cd player or Ipod right now?
Right now I have the cd called Dummy in my cd player. It is by the artist Portishead. I love love love it!!!
4. How far do you want to go in the radio world?
I'm not sure how far I want to get in the radio world yet! It is all still new to me. I have only been a DJ for almost 2 semesters now, and I love it. I'm thinking about applying for a job on the board. It would be awesome to have my own show one day on a respectable station besides just college radio, but I still think doing some promotions work behind the scenes would be just as much fun!
5. What music is your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure when it comes to music....I would have to say it would be Outkast. It isn't that much of a guilty pleasure because I am sure everyone loves it, but when you play it as much as I do, and blast it in your car and home as much as I do....it gets embarrassing. My neighbors have to hate me!!!! I can't stop. Ever. Outkast for life!!!
6. What's your favorite lyric in a song?
My favorite lyric in a song is probably not much of a surprise to anyone. All of my best friends and listeners to my show I'm sure know that I love Interpol. My favorite song of all time is a song by them called Obstacle 2.
I feel like love is in the kitchen with a culinary eye
I think he's making something special
And I'm smart enough to try
If you don't trust yourself for at least one minute each day,
Well you should trust in this, girl, cause loving is coming our way.
I love the way love is personified in this song!! It's beautiful! I'm sure there are better lyrics out there, but this is just one of my all time favorite songs!
7. If music was food, what food would it be?
If music was food it would be tofu and rice. Not just any tofu and rice...but extra firm tofu smothered in really really yummy sesame sauce, and the rice would be fried with egg and peas and carrots and soy sauce, and there would be an egg roll on the side! A SPRING EGG ROLL!
8. Anything else you want to add?
I would like to add that I love WUAG, and it is such a great experience to be a part of whether or not you want to have a career in radio or not. Everyone is so friendly and nice, and it is great to get to know such a wonderful group of diverse people! Everyone meshes together nicely and it makes it well worth the time you put in there!! WUAG 103.1 FM FOR LIFE!!!
FALL 2007

November 5th - November 12th Jeff Dyck
1. Why did you win the legendary WUAG DJ of the Week?
I guess I've been pretty active with the station, doing my show and working in the sports department throughout the semester.
2. What's the 411 on your show?
I do a show on Thursday morning from 9 'til 11 A.M. It's smooth; it's laid back. I like to play what i think is real hip-hop, not the stuff that you hear in the popular media, with a little funk and rock thrown in there.
3. What are some albums that got you interested in music?
Method Man "Tical 2000: Judgement Day" Onyx "Shut 'em Down" DMX "It's Dark and Hell is Hot" Eminem "Infinite"
4. What cool shows have you seen lately in North Cackalack?
The WUAG Presents show at Greene Street with Maf-Madix was cool. I was pleasantly surprised.
5.What is your favorite potato dish? Baked scalloped potatoes with cheese. . .yeah, no doubt

October 22nd - 29th Joe Scott & Mike Compton "The Movie Show"
1. Tell the people on the Interwebs about your show.
It's called "The Movie Show" and it's on Thursday nights from 7-9 P.M. We discuss movie news and play music from movie soundtracks. If our show were toast, my co-host Mike Compton would be the butter; I'm just the bread.
2. Why did you guys win DJs of the Week?
It's the horses that run for the race that go much further than the ones that run for the carrot.
3. What do you feel is the best use of scored music in a film?
Mark Mothersbaugh's scores for Wes Anderson's films have been excellent. Also, the "Ocean's" trilogy has really cool electronic music.
4. What do you feel is the best use of licensed music in a film?
Wes Anderson makes some interesting choices with the music in his films. Also, Quentin Tarantino employs licensed music well.
5. What's a film that people should see that they probably haven't?
I'd have to say that people should view "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" with adult eyes. It's actually a sister film to "The Bicycle Thieves," an absurd comedy about a man in love with a bike.
October 15th - 22nd Bryan McCance & Caleb Tracy
1. Tell the people about your show.
It's Thursday afternoons 3-5 P.M. We have a new music show, so whatever's brand new is what we play. We run the gamut from hip-hop to rock to post-rock.
2. Why are you guys the DJs of the Week?
We've been involved with WUAG for a while and we have alot of fun DJ-ing.
3. Can you pinpoint an album that got you into music?
Bryan: I can think of a couple: "Lonesome Crowded West" by Modest Mouse and "Campfire Songs" by Animal Collective.
Caleb: Sure, "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" by the Dead Kennedys, Nirvana in general, and The Minutemen records.
4. What's a good show you've seen in North Cackalack this year?
Bryan: Animal Collective, RJD2, David Karsten Daniels, and Ben Davis & The Jets
Caleb: I saw The Black Lips this summer. I was expecting them to piss on each other. They did spit in the air and catch it on their face several times though.
5. What...is your favorite potato dish (as always, french fried potatoes are out of the running)?
Bryan: I'll have to say a nice loaded potato...you know, dress it up real nice: sour cream, bacon bits, and feta cheese...make it a heart attack on the potato.
Caleb: red skin potato salad

October 8th - 15th Reed Benjamin & Doug Shadwick
1. Why do you guys think you're the DJs of the Week?
Doug: Reed did alot at the station, such as going to several WUAG presents events.
Reed: Doug covered part of another DJ's shift while the computer was messed up, allowing the station to avoid dead air.
2. How would you guys describe your show?
Doug: We do a show on Sunday mornings from 4-7 A.M. It's an eclectic show, we play rock and jazz mostly.
Reed: Our show is so early that we mindlessly walk around the station and pick what we want to hear.
3. What are some recent albums that you guys have enjoyed?
Doug: I've really like the new Interpol and Go Team! albums.
Reed: David Karsten Daniels, Radiohead's new album--In Rainbows, and Damien Jurado
4. Can you guys pinpoint a record that got you into music?
Doug: We Get Requests by The Oscar Peterson Trio
Reed: Capt'n Jazz...and my dad and I listened to Beatles records when I was growing up.
October 1st - 8th Kaitlynn Havens

1. Why did you win the illustrious DJ of the Week?
I made some cookies because I enjoy baking, and then I brought them down to the WUAG spot at the Tate Street Festival, where I stayed pretty much all day. I had a blast and got a pretty bad sunburn; so I guess maybe because people felt bad for me (laughs).
2. Will you enlighten everyone about your show?
I do a show Wednesday mornings 1-4 a.m. with a co-host. I like dance music and he likes prog. rock, so we end up with a pretty eclectic mix of music.
3. What's been a good show in North Cakalak lately?
The National (an indy rock band) was the most rocking thing ever, which one wouldn't expect.
4. What are some CD listening suggestions you would like to make?
Strawberry Jam by Animal Collective
Alligator by The National
On Avery Island by Neutral Milk Hotel
5. What's better, Italian or Chinese cuisine?
I have to go with Italian because it's classier; you can eat Chinese food in your dorm room, but with Italian food, you often have to get dressed up and be more formal about it, which is nice.
September 24th - 30th Steve Spraggs
1. Tell us about your show.
I help Lindsay out by doing interviews various things on Radio Greensboro. It's on Sunday nights, 8-10.
2. Why did you win the coveted DJ of the Week?
I suppose due to my efforts getting stuff hauled around. Also, I helped alot with Prez's event last weekend: the Across the Board Festival.
3. What's a good show you've seen around our neck of the woods lately?
Well, Two Art Chicks always has cool shows. Also, at the Across the Board festival: The Leaves and Mathmatix w/DJ Prez were awesome, Red Collar really rocked out, The Fifes had people slam-dancing, Bronzed Chorus were very good, and pretty much all of the hip-hop stuff at the festival was fun.
4. What's a CD for people to check out that they might not have heard?
Southern Culture on the Skids and Pterodactyl are definitely worth checking out. Also, The Get Down Sequence will be in rotation soon.
September 17th - 24th Asa Cooney
1. Why did you win DJ of the Week?
I became the office of waste management for a day.
2. Tell the website readers a little bit about your show.
Its called "Stack & Stacks of Golden Wax," on Thursdays 11pm to 1am. I play Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, and Do Wop. I figure if it makes me want to dance, other people will want to dance too. And Micheal Jackson-he doesn’t fit into any of those categories.
3. What do you think about the move? And the Neon Sign?
I think it’s gonna be TRL-tastic!
4. How long have you been a DJ?
Just over 2 years.
5. What’s your favorite horror movie?
Oh good question. I will say (long pause) Chopping Mall http://imdb.com/title/tt0090837/
I can give recap-Teenagers lock themselves into the mall after hours and robot security guards kill them one by one with lasers. Everyone should see it, everyone with a sense of humor.
September 10th - 17th Alvin Parks (aka Prez)
1. Why did you win DJ of the Week?
For some reason, people like my show. Also, maybe people heard about the event I'm putting on this weekend, Across the Board at 915 Skatepark & Two Art Chicks--live music, skateboarding, and live graffiti artists. It's cool...so I guess I'm cool by association.
2. What's your show all about?
I do a show on Saturday nights from 7-10 called "In The Beat of The Night." It's your very best in underground hip-hop and electronic music. This is actually my third year doing the show; look out for an anniversary party soon.
3. What's a good show you've seen recently in North Cakalak?
It hasn't happened yet, but I'm going to check out Amos Lee on Monday, September 24th at the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill. He's a sort of folky-guitar player.
4. What's a good album to check out in the station?
Sound Tribe Sector 9--"Live at Bonarroo"
5. Finally, what's your favorite potato dish?
Oh yeah, french fries don't count. Definitely my Mom's potato salad; I'd travel nine hours to get it.
September 3rd - 10th Trey Hudson
1. Why did you win DJ of the week?
I went to several WUAG events and volunteered for the station during them also.
2. What's your show like?
I do a rotation show on Mondays from 11 AM-1 PM. I just try to play as much of a mix of the rotation as possible, with some of my favorites thrown in for good measure.
3. What's the best show you've been to in North Carolina lately?
The Octopus Project show was awesome.
4. What's an album at the station that people might not have heard yet, but need to hear?
The Royal Sun CD that's in the local rotation right now
5. What's a better invention: the printing press or the pizza oven?
I'll have to go with the printing press because I enjoy reading more than I enjoy eating pizza.
